First, The Dark Thorn has made its way to the printer. It is entirely out of my hands at this point. It’s an odd feeling. I’ve spent so much time with it over the last year and that time has largely been mine and mine alone. But now, the book is no longer in my hands. Other people have been reading it as an ebook. And now, the printer has the book and all of the files it takes to produce a trade hardcover book and a leatherbound edition.
The printer has assured me that the books will ship to me by the first week of December. It could be earlier than that though. I should have a firm date in hand within the next week or so. Stay tuned!
Second, I finished The Unfettered Knight, my contribution to Unfettered. The novella is 16,000 words, a lot larger than I had planned. But the subject matter required it. I’ve given the story a once-over and it is now with my personal editor. We’ll see how badly she wounds me with the red pen!
Third, editorial work has begun on Unfettered. While I am still waiting on one last story to come in, I am now re-reading the stories that have been submitted and giving editorial feedback. I have to be honest, this is new to me. I’m critical of my own work but it’s hard being critical of others, especially some of those people I really look up to as individuals and writers. But I also know I am a reader like all of you, and astute readers have a keen sense of what works and what doesn’t work in a story. I am hoping that sense will come to my aid.
All in all, busy busy busy. More updates to come!
