Another month has passed. And I have news to share!
PHOENIX COMICON EXCLUSIVE
Two weekends ago, I attended the Phoenix Comicon with four other contributors to Unfettered—Brandon Sanderson, Kevin Hearne, Peter Orullian, and Terry Brooks. I took 250 copies of a comicon exclusive featuring only our five stories.
By the end of the convention, those 250 copies sold out. I met many wonderful fantasy fans and had a great time. Thank you to everyone who made that possible! So that edition is sold out (although I’ve seen two copies show up on eBay already!).
The trade hardcover of Unfettered is scheduled to arrive into my eager hands the last week of June. It is going to take at least three weeks to ship out all ordered copies—one of the hardships of self-publishing an anthology of this kind without a real distribution apparatus. Needless to say, my friends and family will be helping as much as they can and once we get into a rhythm it should go quickly. The good thing is after shipping out 1000 copies of The Dark Thorn in February, we learned how best to do it. So fingers crossed!
SIGNED & NUMBERED EDITION
As I reported a month ago, the Signed & Numbered edition of Unfettered will be considerably delayed. The 500 signature pages are being sent around to my contributors and they are being signed as we speak. The good news is, they have been signed by Mark Lawrence who lives the farthest away in the UK! I can’t stress this enough: in no way was this the fault of my writers. It was mine, being new to this and not fully comprehending the logistics of such an endeavor.
I will say the extra time will give Todd Lockwood and me the possibility of doing something really cool with the S&N edition—at no extra cost to you. More on this when I know it. And I’ll share a release date with you when I have the signature sheets back and they’ve all been signed!
ADVANCED READING COPY
The hardcover Advanced Reader Copies of Unfettered should arrive in the middle of June. I believe the printer has it slotted for June 14th. These will be shipped out first, of course. So those of you who order one, you’ll get the book before anyone. It has a bunch of peculiarities to it. I edited two pages out of my story at the last minute —I didn’t like how a scene played out and I rewrote it—and those pages made it into the ARC. Two other authors did some minor editing that will be different between versions. So that’s kind of fun for you collectors out there. I’ll let you know when I receive the copies from the printer.
I have received a lot of questions about the Ebook, mostly if there would be one. There is. It will be available on Kindle, Nook, Kobo, and iBooks—to start. With the help of author Michael J. Sullivan who has helped with the Ebook creation, I will be uploading the files to those various e-platforms on June 17th for a June 25th release. Some will go live earlier; some will go live later. That part of it is entirely out of my hands.
What will the price be? The Ebook will be $9.99. Yes, I could have made it a few dollars more expensive considering the nature of the book but… why? You readers have been great and my debt is damn near gone. The least I can do is cut you all a break. More when the Ebook goes live! When it does go live, please use your social media to let other fantasy readers know about the book. With no budget for marketing, word of mouth is my only ally in this.
Again, I can’t stress how exciting all of this has been. I hope the book lives up to your expectations. I am already planning a few new projects, several of them you will be interested in. Can’t wait to share that news with you when the time comes!
