Update: Unbound

cover-unboundHere is an update about Unbound and Unfettered II!

The final story for Unbound has been sent to me. We have been moving forward with editing for the last few weeks in preparation for the completed, first draft anthology manuscript. Unfortunately, it took a while for this last story to be turned in and it has pushed Unbound into the holiday season now.

I’m not going to lie: I like this new development. A lot. I love having books being given as gifts. And I sincerely think this anthology will be the perfect book to give to your favorite geek!

I’m shooting for Unbound to begin shipping by December 1st. It may ship earlier in November. I’ll know that when I have Todd Lockwood’s cover art and the edits finished.

Due to pushing the anthology back a bit, I have also decided to move Terry Brooks’s Unfettered II short story into Unbound! He will write a new story for Unfettered II. His story for Unbound is a Landover tale and it is absolutely hilarious. Can’t wait for you guys to read it.

Here is the completed Unbound line-up:

  • Joe Abercrombie
  • Kristen Britain
  • Terry Brooks
  • Jim Butcher
  • Rachel Caine
  • Harry Connolly
  • Delilah S. Dawson
  • David Anthony Durham
  • Jason M. Hough
  • Mary Robinette Kowal
  • Mark Lawrence
  • John Marco
  • Tim Marquitz
  • Brian McClellan
  • Seanan McGuire
  • Peter Orullian
  • Kat Richardson
  • Anthony Ryan
  • Shawn Speakman
  • Brian Staveley
  • Michael J. Sullivan
  • Sam Sykes
  • Mazarkis Williams

Todd Lockwood is hard at work on the cover art as we speak. We have already discussed the content of the cover and I’m excited to share it when it is finished.

As for Unfettered II, that anthology will now launch at Phoenix Comic Con or San Diego Comic Con in 2016. I already have half of the stories and I know the rest will be turned in this year.

More news when I have it! Can’t wait to share this magical anthology with all of you!

  1. When will we be able to pre-order the S&N edition of Unfettered II?

    1. Not until 2016 now. I had to push Unfettered II back to give room for Unbound.

  2. Might we see a Robin Hobb story in an upcoming anthology? Consider this an official request. 🙂

    1. I wish! I’ve asked her several times. She doesn’t write a whole lot of short stories.

  3. Well, That’s great news! In time for the holidays is awesome! I was hoping to have the ARC and the Trade of Unbound to bring to NY Comic con to have signed by Terry and you… but, patience pays off with your quality books, Shawn. Thanks for the update and Congratulations again!

    1. I wish I could get that ARC out before NYCC. Grr.

  4. Excellent news! I’m wondering does this mean the ARC of Unbound will ship around October 1st or possibly September? 🙂

    1. Sorry, stupid question. I’m happy whenever it does come out. Thanks for the update sir.

    2. It takes six or seven weeks to produce an ARC. So that puts us outside of it, unfortunately. 🙁

  5. Can I just pre-order right away? I love this and I love your work.
(I just hope your Dark Thorn will be translated into Norwegian to reach more people. The one I’ve got is going the round among my gang. They all want more)

    1. Cara, thanks for the kind words. 🙂 You can pre-order, yes.

  6. Hi Shawn,
I was unlucky enough not to be aware of the original Unfettered while the numbered copies were on sale but bought 2 of the standard. I did however wait patiently for months to get a numbered copy of Unbound. Can I clarify in relation to you offering promise
d of future copies of signed/numbered titles. Who has a preorder right to numbered copies? Is it always those who bought the original Unfettered (which I don’t really see as fair) or have they relinquished their rights to that number when they didn’t order the subsequent books published by GOP? As I’m willing to keep buying numbered copies of all the books you produce (now that I’ve managed to get my hands on one) as I’m sure many are.

    1. The people who ordered the S&N of Unfettered had first right or refusal for the S&N of Unbound. The people who possess the S&N of Unbound have first right of refusal for the S&N of Unfettered II. And so on and so forth.

  7. I’m willing to wait as long as it takes…its always worth it! Thanks so much for keeping us updated Shawn…it is greatly appreciated!
