The Shade of Bremen by Marc Simonetti
The Shade of Bremen by Marc Simonetti
Grim Oak Press is proud to offer signed and numbered limited editions of the original Shannara trilogy by Terry Brooks.

The Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara, and The Wishsong of Shannara will be individually produced and leather-bound, featuring the highest quality materials. They will also be beautifully illustrated by Marc Simonetti, one of today’s premiere fantasy artists. Having completed the illustrations for Sword, he is already hard at work on the illustrations for Elfstones.

Grim Oak Press is also offering a signed and numbered limited edition of Sometimes the Magic Works, Terry’s memoir and writing guide. It will make an excellent addition to your collection and is a perfect gift for those who want to learn the craft of writing.

Note: If you order all three books on one receipt, they will ship together after The Wishsong of Shannara has published in 2017. If you want your copies of the books to ship separately, you must order them separately.

  1. Have the Lettered Editions been chosen yet?

    1. Yes, you were not one of them sadly.

      1. Thanks for the response.

  2. Hello, didn’t know all three volumes would be up for preorder at once so have to arrange some things. How fast are they selling? – I am just afraid to order one volume now and other two may have gone in a few days. Is there a way to reserve other volumes for short time?

    1. There isn’t. I think you’ll be fine.

  3. These will probably be the most amazing quality books I have ever had the pleasure of purchasing. I’m thankful to have the chance at purchasing these wonderful editions. Can’t wait to get notification on how to secure my orders. Thanks for all your hard work Shawn.

  4. Ordered my lettered copies of the trilogy and all paid for. Can’t wait to get them!!!!!!!

  5. I just completed my pre-order and received email to acknowledge the order. I noticed that the zip code for the shipping address is not correct. What can I do to correct this? Thank you!

    1. Send me an email at shawn@grimoakpress.com with the correct information and I can update it.

  6. I could only see the video to number 43. Was I one of the last 9 people?

  7. I’m disappointed in this process as I’m one one the unlucky un-chosen. I have supported your endeavors from the beginning and now can’t get the deluxe editions.

    What a bummer…

    1. You can order a limited edition leather bound copy still, just not one of the 52 lettered editions. You’ll still get a great book.

With over 200 people applying, some where always going to be disappointed, but after the Broken Empire crashed the site and set of terrorist alerts at paypal (I wish that was an exaggeration) Shawn had to find another way to do things this time.

  8. Where was the drawing video? I didn’t see it. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t chosen, but I would still like to be sure….maybe my notice got lost… ;o)

    1. Congrats to all the winners. That last one seems a bit sus though :p

  10. I didn’t know about the lettered editions but I’ve ordered the limited editions.
The Sword of Shannara (paper back) was the first book I ever bought as a kid (I liked the cover and description) with my own money (I still have my original copy).
Being in Australia, I ordered the heritage of shannara when it was released, via telnet at books.com (this was before the internet) as it was not available in Australia on release.

Although I now read books on a kindle, I can’t wait for these hard cover editions, and I definitely would have bought the lettered editions!

  11. Ouch. I had hoped they would be staggered release. paying it all at once is brutal. Would have been nice to do a payment plan or something if they had to go out all at once, other publishers do that. This has bust my budget.

  12. […] the magic that I had read. Now I am in a position to produce those leather-bound books myself! At Grim Oak Press, my fledgling small press! For the interior artwork, I wanted a masterful painter, someone who […]

  13. Just grabbed a Sword of Shannara and signed up for the website. We just recently found out about these releases and my wife is becoming a huge fan of Mr. Brooks. Just missed him in Lansing at Schuler. Thanks Shawn for putting this together, looking forward to receiving it.

  14. I’m a bit late to find out about this, but I ordered all 3 original trilogy limited edition books, it’ll be a nice surprise next summer. Ü I probably wouldn’t want to spend $400 on a book anyway.
Over the last few months I’ve been listening to the audio books in published order, except I’m saving the short stories, right now I’m between Bearers of the Black Staff and Measure of the Magic, but yesterday I started listening to the original Sword of Shannara read by Scott Brick again, I just can’t go on enough about how great Brooks’ writing is. My order number apparently isn’t an indication of how many copies are still available, so I’m curious, how many copies are left? Which book has been pre-ordered the most?

    1. About 400 copies left for order of Sword. The other two books aren’t even close to that since they are publishing next year and people are spreading out their purchases — and rightly so.
