Information: Dragonsteel Nexus, Grimoire Pick Up, and Signings

Hi Grim Oakers,

Dragonsteel Nexus 2024 begins this week on Thursday, December 5th in Salt Lake City, UT. It is a convention built by bestselling author Brandon Sanderson and his wonderful team, one dedicated almost purely to fantasy writers and readers.

Grim Oak Press will be attending for our second straight year. We will be at Booth #104 which is near the large BYU Bookstore booth. Author Michael J. Sullivan and his family will be joining Jeff, Becky, and me, making it the booth to visit. And not only that, Grim Oak is publishing the first Grimoire at this Dragonsteel Nexus, and I can't wait to see people grabbing their copies. My pen is ready to deface as many of those books as possible.

We will have some copies of the anthology for sale at the con. For those of you who have already pre-ordered your copy of Grimoire for pick up, please visit Booth #104 as soon as you arrive. Bring your order number and/or your order name. You will want the book in hand to ensure it gets signed by as many contributors as possible.

What's the best way to do that? Here is a list of Grimoire contributor booth numbers:

  • JA Andrews: #422
  • Zack Argyle: #I-20 (Friday only, walking the con Thursday and Saturday)
  • Jason Denzel: #419
  • Robin Hobb: No Booth
  • Donato Giancola: #110
  • Fonda Lee: #417
  • Kat Ogden: No Booth
  • Peter Orullian: Cancelled
  • Shawn Speakman: #104
  • Michael J. Sullivan: #104
  • Eldon Thompson: #421

I'll sign your book the moment you pick it up. I suspect that Michael J. Sullivan will be happy to do that too. Sadly, Peter Orullian can no longer attend due to a family matter. The others besides Robin Hobb and Kat Ogden? You'll have to go to their booths to see them. Which should be fun as they are all lovely people. Do consider buying any booth wares they have too as it is not cheap traveling to a con.

Robin Hobb and her daughter/writer Kat Ogden do not have booths. And as I understand it, Robin's convention signing tickets sold out almost immediately. Therefore, Robin and Kat have offered to sign copies of Grimoire at the Grim Oak Press booth on Thursday, December 5th, at 11:00AM and Friday, December 6th, at 1:30PM. NOTE: This is for signing copies of Grimoire first and foremost; we will decide at signing time what other books may be signed (ie. we may allow each person to have a few books along with Grimoire, but people with suitcases of Hobb book will have to wait at the end of the line with no guarantees).

Another fun thing: artist Donato Giancola will have art prints of Grimoire's cover art available at his booth. And he will be giving away bookmarks featuring that same art. So be sure to stop by his booth and tell him Shawn Speakman sent ya!

For those of you who ordered the book to be shipped to you, we will be tackling that after Dragonsteel Nexus as we stated we'd do on the product page—and once we finish shipping out Name of the Wind. Shipped copies of Grimoire will likely not arrive in time for the holiday gift-giving season, I'm afraid.

I think that's it. We are ready for the convention. It's going to be fun. If you have any questions, do reach out to us. We are always around to help.

Best Nexus Wishes,

Shawn Speakman
Publisher & Creative Director & Writer & Bald Guy
