April Grim Oak Projects Update

April Grim Oak Projects Update

Hello again, Grim Oak Community!

Welcome to the April edition of our Projects Status Update newsletter!  Wanted to get some new and exciting information out to everyone about our current projects and some new ones on the horizon.  Don't forget to visit our Project Statuses page for detailed information.

  • The Sword of Shannara
    • Even though this book is fully published, shipped, and sold out - we took a serious hit to our printed editions due to damage (not just the dust jacket).  This means we are pursuing printing additional copies to replace the severely damaged books.
    • Though number matching will be nearly impossible, we are going to give precedence to those who ordered a copy of Elfstones and Wishsong, but could never get a copy of Sword because we were sold out.  If you are in this position, please send a note to contact@grimoakpress.com asking to be put on our waiting list.
    • Look for more news on the additional printings in your email box soon!
  • The Elfstones of Shannara
    • Our Signed & Numbered Limited Editions have been shipped!  I still have a very full international "hold" shelf, so those of you overseas that are still waiting for other items in your order, do not fret!  I will be able to empty that shelf quite a bit once The Wishsong of Shannara prints (more details below).
    • The Signed & Lettered editions have arrived in my warehouse, but we are still awaiting the clamshell/traycases so I can ship them together.  Hopefully a few more weeks of patience will pay off.  These babies are beautiful!
  • The Wishsong of Shannara
    • Marc Simonetti is currently producing the artwork for a different project (Street Freaks) but will move back to The Wishsong of Shannara by early May.  At that point, we should start to see interior artwork coming in... with one of them hopefully being his adaptation of the Jachyra!
    • With Terry Brooks publishing multiple books this year, we are being a bit careful with Random House and trying to work within their schedule to publish this limited edition. We can't step on their toes with the release of The Skaar Invasion. It looks like a late summer printing to finish up the trilogy!
  • Street Freaks
    • This Terry Brooks title is moving along nicely.  Interior artwork and cover concepts are well underway.
    • Advance Reader Copies and chapbooks have been produced and are being used for promotion along with some other fantastic social media to get the word out.
    • The chapbook is currently up on our site for free (shipping charges applicable) so get your copy now!  The full book will be published in October.
  • Uprooted
    • This project is turning out to be something special.  Donato has delivered some amazing interior illustrations and is beginning to paint our wraparound cover.  We are going to have a lot of fun with  this book and it will be worth every penny.
    • With the speed of Donato, pressure will be on Shawn and I to come up with the layout and get files to the printer.  We expect to publish this book in late July (fingers crossed).
  • Faerie Tale
    • Artist Don Maitz is currently re-reading the book and marking scenes that he thinks would make for great interior artwork.  Once Raymond E. Feist and him agree, it will take a couple of months to complete.
    • Since we already have a cover chosen we should be able to publish this title in late summer.  Perhaps an August-September time frame!
  • Magician & Daughter of the Empire
    • Now I know everyone has been skimming down this list to get to this point! Ha! Do not fret!  Everything is still in line and we will be publishing both series.
    • Don Maitz will be doing all new interiors for Magician and Janny Wurts has plans to do interiors and a new cover for Daughter of the Empire.
    • Once Don begins turning in the first pieces of art for Faerie Tale, we will put the books up for pre-sale and will 100% honor our match-number agreement for those who purchased Faerie Tale.
    • We are hoping to have both titles go on pre-sale in June.
  • Lord Foul's Bane
    • And for those of you who were skimming down even further... I think this is the other update you were looking for!
    • We really want to announce this officially for pre-sale.  Unfortunately, we are still working on finding the perfect artist who has the skills and time to bring new illustrations to life.  We have a few really good leads at this point and are just waiting for commitment.
    • We do expect to put this title up for sale in May.  Since we are doing The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, similar rules will apply in honoring the matching of numbers and letters for folks who buy early.
  • Elegy for Darkness
    • We are in the final stages of contracts for publication rights on this title.  Expect to finish in the next week.
    • Similar to Faerie Tale and its artist, we are giving artist John Howe time to produce some beautiful work.
    • We expect this to be a big announcement this summer!  Perhaps a July pre-sale.
  • Dragonsbane
    • This title by Barbara Hambly is a brand new Grim Oak Press project we are taking on this spring.
    • The book has had such an amazing influence on SF&F writers over the decades that Brandon Sanderson has agreed to write an introduction which will be included in the publication.
    • We will be using new and original artwork from Michael Whelan.
    • And yes, this means a TRIPLE-SIGNED edition by Barbara Hambly, Michael Whelan, and Brandon Sanderson!  Super excited about this project and you will see it on pre-sale in April!
  • Sometimes the Magic Works
    • This title is nearly complete and ready to print.  We are awaiting word from Random House around when they would be good with us publishing this book due to the multiple other releases Terry has coming out.
    • We are pushing hard for an early summer release!
  • Unbound
    • Seanan McGuire has completed singing and the signature pages are now with Todd Lockwood. Luckily, Shawn and Todd live close to each other so a nice dinner and signing party is necessary!
    • Jim Butcher will be the last on the list... looking like early summer publication!
